Chinese Medicine

Heal’rs of Chinese Medicine take a holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes, focusing as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment of disease. Good health relies on the restoration and maintenance of harmony, balance and order to the individual. Our Heal’r Doctors of Chinese Medicine do this by addressing the underlying cause of the condition, as well as the symptoms and assist with drug-free pain relief.

Utilising Chinese Medicine and its many unique areas of practice may help improve lung capacity, regulate heart rate and blood pressure, balance hormone levels, while also reducing chronic inflammation. Research studies that have been collated in the Acupuncture Evidence Project, show that Chinese Medicine is effective in the treatment of acute and chronic ailments, and can be an effective adjunct in the treatment of many common ailments; including mental health, physical stress, arthritis, heart disease, cancer and many more.

Chinese Medicine at Heal’r Carnegie, Melbourne, consists of five modalities:

  • Acupuncture
  • Manual therapies (Remedial massage)
  • Chinese Herbal Medicine
  • Nutrition and lifestyle counselling
  • Qi Gong and Tai Chi (Exercise therapy)

The origins of acupuncture can be traced back to over 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest health care systems in the world. Today, acupuncture supports the treatment of a wide number of conditions. No need to be concerned about needles. Our experienced Heal’rs use gentle insertion techniques of fine, single-use, sterile Acupuncture needles, into specific locations on the body called Acupuncture points. These Acupuncture points connect along the body, forming energetic pathways known as meridians.

Needle insertion is quick and relatively pain free, producing a state of relaxation; returning the body to a state of equilibrium and optimal function by clearing blockages and encouraging the normal flow of Qi and blood throughout the body.

Our Heal’r of Chinese Medicine, may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods. These include manual therapies, Chinese herbal liniments, cupping and moxibustion, in order to re-balance the flow of Qi within the body.

Tuina Remedial Massage (Manual therapies)

For centuries, Heal’rs have been incorporating remedial massage as a form of healing. The combination of remedial massage and manual therapy known as Musculoskeletal therapy, focuses on soft tissue massage and skeletal alignment. It utilises Acupressure to establish harmony, balance and relaxation throughout the various areas of the physical body.

At our Heal’r Clinic, Carnegie, these manual techniques are applied to the Acu-points, trigger points, fascia, muscles and bones. A treatment may require the client to remain fully clothed or partially uncovered depending on the course of the treatment and if oil and medicated liniments are used. This a true and traditional form of remedial massage, right here in Melbourne.

Cupping (featured photo from our Heal’r Community event)

Often used in conjunction with Acupuncture, cupping is a method of introducing heat into a glass cup and then placing it directly on the surface of the body, creating a sealed vacuum. This improves circulation to the local area, whilst also relaxing the surrounding muscle fibres; reducing inflammation and improving the flow of blood and lymph within the body and enabling a deep sense of bodily relaxation. It acts from the most superficial skin layer to the deeper muscle and connective tissue layers within the body, acting as a corrective deep-tissue remedial massage. This approach is ideal for athletes or active individuals who require advancement in recovery from muscle fatigue, overuse, injury, and/or any pain associated conditions.

A key component frequently utilised in conjunction with Acupuncture is the therapy of igniting the Chinese herb known as Moxa. Moxa is directly or indirectly positioned near the surface of the body or on the head of the Acupuncture needle itself. Moxibustion can be used in a diverse range of illnesses due to its ability to penetrate the most superficial outer exterior, into the much deeper internal layers of the body itself.

Exercise therapy and Mindful meditation (Qi Gong and Tai Chi, on timetable as Awaken’d Movement Therapy)

Chinese Exercise therapy and Mindful meditation (Qi Gong) is an ancient Chinese holistic health care system in its own right, with a vast and complex history. Qi Gong is a form of healing that our co-founder and Heal’rs have used to overcome chronic adrenal fatigue and other health conditions. We are so excited to bring this to our Heal’r community.

Qi Gong’s various methods and sets of exercises are based on the theories underpinning traditional Chinese Medicine. Qi Gong is the science of moving meditation; harmonising breath techniques with gentle rhythmic movements, along with mindful intention and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy known as Qi.

Qi Gong follows the path of harmonising the breath, the mind, and the body; to return the whole to a natural state of being, free from suffering and dis-ease. Practising Qi Gong leads toward better health, a strengthened vitality and a refined and tranquil state of being.

Our aim within Qi Gong practice at Heal’r Carnegie, is specific for whichever outcome we intend; whether for self-development, postural alignment, improved fitness and increased flexibility; leading towards a better state of health and wellness, longevity and spiritual cultivation. Energise Qi Gong and what it can do for you.
